On June 21, 2025, during The Day of the Composer, the city composers of Heerlen and Maastricht - Angela de Weijer and Hans Leenders - will join forces in a unique collaboration. From their shared fascination for the church organ as a “time machine,” they are creating a parallel sound installation at two historic locations: the Stahlhut/Verschueren organ in the Pancratius Church in Heerlen and the Severijn organ in the Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht.

The composition is a musical time travel inspired by the rich history of both cities - from Roman influences and patron saints to future music and wind sounds. In the afternoon, Angela and Hans will play the organs live, each with a timbre appropriate to the character of the instrument and the location.

The performance will be framed by local musicians: in Maastricht, Leenders will invite saxophonist J. Warren to lead visitors in from the Vrijthof with an improvisation, while in Heerlen a wind player or accordionist will accompany the audience.

A sensory connection between two cities, two sound worlds and one joint composition.
