SACHIT AJMANI

Sachit Ajmani is a composer and pianist with an interdisciplinary practice. His work balances accuracy and spontaneity, embracing the continuum between the precise and the improvised.

He was commissioned by the Van Abbemuseum to write 'Impressions', a series of sonic reflections on four works of art, including works by Mondriaan and Ernst from their 2021-2025 exhibition 'Dwarsverbanden', in line with their philosophy on multisensory museum presentations. In May 2023, his improvisatory soundscape, Street Scene, premiered at Bureau Europa, Maastricht, in collaboration with Nader Adabnejad. Nader and Sachit also collaborated on an improvised performance, 'Women, Life, Freedom' (2023), featuring interviews, recordings of poetry and speeches about women's rights under oppressive regimes.

Nature and the climate crisis are recurring themes in Sachit's work. In April 2023, the first part of SIREN, a musical theater piece with choreography by Cilia Hermann, was presented at Festival Images Sonores in Liège at the invitation of Intro in Situ and Center Henri Pousseur. SIREN questions the role of the individual within a problem caused by systemic gridlock. He wrote 'Wildfire', in which he reflects on climate fear, to commemorate composer Arno Dieteren's 70th birthday in 2021.
