Fie Schouten is a Dutch clarinetist and specializes in performing contemporary music. She does so with various musicians with whom she has recorded CDs and over the years. She repeatedly initiated new projects and in addition she is a regular guest of the German renowned Ensemble Musikfabrik. Theatrical aspects in making music are also an important aspect, this was visibly evident in the years 2008-2018 in which she could be heard and seen in various productions as a soloist with music by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Composers whose works she recorded include Georges Aperghis, Michael Finnissy, Rozalie Hirs, Enno Poppe, Unsuk Chin. In recent years, improvisation has taken an increasingly prominent role in performance practice, although she already received the prize for best improvisation in the International Gaudeamus Interpreten Concours in 2003 (with Karina Erhard). With Tobias Klein she leads the Basklarinet Festijn; with composer Aspasia Nasopoulou she curates the concert series Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam. Fie Schouten is since 2013 professor Bass clarinet and Contemporary Music at the Classical and Jazz Departments of Prince Claus Conservatoire, Groningen, the Netherlands.
Sofia Borges, Portugese and based in Berlin, is a percussionist, composer and improviser who has gained prominence through a wide range of international projects. As a solo performer, and in collaboration with the most diverse international artists in the fields of contemporary music, improvised music, free jazz and global music. Borges has been playing percussion since she was a teenager, receiving her early training on drums, percussion, jazz, chamber and orchestral music at the Escola de Música dos Conservatório Nacional (Portugal) and the Hot Club of Portugal. Subsequently, she broadened her studies to include composition, computer music and multimedia at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Portugal) and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Germany). One of the commissions she received was by the Bauhaus Foundation for their 100th anniversary in 2019, a stagework for young performers and audience.
