Graham Fitkin
Treeline
It sounds like fiction, but renowned British composer Graham Fitkin is making it a reality. His project TREELINE transforms the hidden sounds of trees into a unique, contemporary composition.
On July 8, 2026, his epic cycling adventure brings him to Maastricht, where he will perform his composition in a special concert alongside Intro makers. The attentive listener might recognize the sounds of the ancient Maastricht giant Sequoia.
A musical procession will be held, led by Francesca Fantini and Mario Calzada. Two compositions by Intro-resident Nader Adabdejad will be executed, after which Graham Fitkin will perform Treeline.

Program:
We will meet outside at Begraafplaats Tongerseweg (ingang Javastraat 33) , where the more than 100-year-old sequoia tree stands. Then, a musical procession, led by Francesca Fantini and Mario Calzada, will make its way to the Sint-Theresiakerk. The main programme will take place there, featuring two compositions by intro-resident Nader Adabdejad, followed by Graham Fitkin’s Treeline. Graham Fitkin incorporates all this information into a new work that has been adapted to make the tree sounds resonate as a newly created ‘forest instrument’.
Nader Adabdejad - Baroon Barooneh and Red Rain:
In the Netherlands, "lekker weer" is a sunny day. In my home, Tehran, "good weather" is the rain—the scent of the earth, the petrichor, and the promise of renewal.
Nader’s performance is a multimedia journey through the layers of our culture and our struggle. Through music and animation, we explore the heavy beauty of leaving home and the digital traces we carry with us.
I move from the acoustic warmth of the guitar to a visceral violin improvisation titled "Red Rain." We follow the theme of Az khoone Javanane vatan laleh damideh “where the blood of the youth blooms into the Laleh” (the red poppy).
Art is a healing force. Let’s make the rain fall together in Maastricht!
This event is made possible with collaboration between Graham Fitkin, Intro in Situ and Maastricht Centre for Arts & Culture, Conservation & Heritage (MACCH).
