Pianist Reinier van Houdt presents the music of Jürg Frey and Michael Pisaro-Liu, two celebrated pioneers of the Wandelweiser composers collective that carries John Cage's ideas of silence, duration, chance, and environment into the future. Silences, like extra-musical sounds, are an integral part of their music.
The works of Frey and Pisaro-Liu have been featured at major new music festivals such as Donaueschinger Musiktage, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, MaerzMusik, Luzern Festival, and Tectonics.
Intro in Situ proudly presents the world premiere of Frey's new piano composition Composer Alone #1 (2024). Reinier will also perform Frey’s Sam Lazaro Bros (1984) and Pisaro-Liu's entre-moments: constellations & the earth and the sky (2006).
Reinier van Houdt is part of David Tibet's outsider band Current 93, in which he worked with Nick Cave, John Zorn, Anohni, Tony McPhee, Ossian Brown and Michael York, among others. He is also one of the driving forces behind the experimental music collective MAZE. He won an award at Ars Electronica Linz 2012 with Francisco López, the Prix Europe 2015 with the Andcompany&Co and the first prize at Videoex 2019 Basel with filmmaker Takashi Makino.
