Intro x Cultura Nova: Clarinde Wesselink - Zones and Tones
EMBODIMENT *PERFORMANCE *SPATIAL ACOUSTICS
In Zones of Tones, the woodland on the edge of the estate of the Wijlre Castle country retreat acts as an active force: a presence that performs alongside the bodies within it. Zones of Tones begins with the idea that sound is an autonomous actor; a force capable of revealing hidden relationships between bodies, environments and perceptual systems. Performers attune themselves to the subtle acoustics of the site: birdsong, frogs, rain and the inimitable rhythm of passing cars. These sounds guide their movement and shape the unfolding of the work.
By following these resonances, rhythms and vibrations as trails, the performers enter a field in which human and non-human forces of action become intertwined. The work explores how moving through our world is never a solitary act. Every step, every gesture carries within it the potential to connect bodies—individually and collectively—into something greater than ourselves. Here, connection is not a fixed state, but a continuous process, shaped by attention, rhythm and proximity.
