Germaine Sijstermans
Textiles Zentrum Haslach
Germaine Sijstermans creates the site-specific spatial installation and composition Gabiroba for the Textiles Zentrum Haslach, on a site in the heart of the Austrian village of Haslach. The spaces and sounds are there for wandering around - for listening, watching, thinking, lazing and daydreaming. The composition is set up as an “open score,” making each performance unique - just as nature shows itself differently in each season.

Everyone is welcome to visit the installation as often and for as long as they wish, during opening hours, with the music sounding over speakers. Live performances of the music will take place July 17 and 22 by a quartet featuring Marcus Kaiser (DE, cello), Marielle Groven (CA/NL, violin), Seamus Cater (UK/NL, concertina) and Sijstermans herself on clarinet.

The Textiles Zentrum Haslach is a museum of textile art and history, in a region where the linen industry dominated for centuries. Gabiroba can be visited during the European Textile Network's summer symposium, which is taking place in Haslach this year.

This production is made possible in part by the Performing Arts Fund and Textiles Zentrum Haslach.
