Because covid is throwing a spanner in the works for makers who started their career in 2020 and 2021, the Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten launched a special version of the Nieuwe Makers Regeling, especially for this group. Thanks to this arrangement, Intro in Situ can help nine musical makers who are at the start of their career in the 2021/2022 season. Makers in the field of composed music, improvised music, music theatre, pop, sound art and mixtures thereof. In our new concert series Get Ready for Take-off they present an experiment – work in progress every month and in June 2022 we will see and hear where it has led them. In this way they work on building up stage experience, audience and repertoire.
The creative processes of music production can be compared to a laboratory. During this time it has become exceptionally clear how indispensable medical scientific research and experiment are for society. But it cannot do without the physical place. In the lab it is tested, failed, corrected, started again. Until there is (for example) a safe vaccine with which people can go public. Music follows a similar route. Every new project starts with an investigation and needs the experiment to come to fruition. The preliminary result will be tested on a small group of volunteers. Only after it has been tested, failed, corrected and started again several times, and there is a solid plan for the rollout, the music will find its way to the wider public.
The nine makers we support have studied at the Maastricht Conservatory, Theater Maastricht, the ABK Maastricht and the Tilburg Conservatory. Below you can find all nine makers and visit their page!
