Ensemble Hopper @ Centre Henri Pousseur, Liege

EUREGIONAL * SOUND ART * YOUNG MAKERS

Start: 20:00

The Liège-based Ensemble Hopper is one of Intro in Situ's collaborative partners in the Euregion. Every year they present a double bill with Hopper's own programme and work by an Intro maker. The double bills are always presented in Belgium and the Netherlands.

As an artist in residence at Intro in Situ, Julia Warren (www.saxophoni.ca) has been researching amongst other things the particular Gregorian chants related to the patron saint of Maastricht, Saint Servatius. For this occasion south up the Maas, Julia will perform these materials plus the inclusion of a 900 year old hymn of Liège's Saint Lambertus. With saxophone, drones, and a special guest in contemporary dancer Emilie van der Waals, they will take an improvisatory randonnée through these materials, accompanied with a small contextualizing talk on the history and why a Montréalaise saxophonist would care about it.

Ensemble Hopper presents HopperLAB! with works by composition students from the conservatories of Maastricht, Liège, Brussels and Mons. The compositions were developed through workshops with the ensemble. Maastricht Conservatory student Nader Adabnejad, who has performed at Intro on multiple occasions, is one of the HopperLAB! composers.
